A starting salary of RM3,500 for diploma graduates and RM4,000 for degree graduates – that is the lucrative offer agreed upon by foreign investors in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) to be given to those who want to work in the zone.

Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said that the majority of investors have agreed to this premium salary proposal after negotiations with the Investment Facilitation Centre and the Johor Talent Development Council.

However, the tempting offer does not come ‘FOC’ but has been set with two important conditions by the investors, namely that local technical skills and productivity levels must be comparable to the salary offered.

Among the committed investors is a company from China that has invested RM500 million in the first phase and will increase to RM3 billion.

The company will also open an R&D centre with UTHM that prioritises local workers as its driving force.

The Johor government seems to really want to ensure that foreign investment brings real returns to the people — but not just numbers.

Salaries and job opportunities must be steady and quality. Full package!
