The Irish government agreed to approve a bill yesterday to ban imports of Israeli products.
The move comes after the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza was illegal under international law last year.
The decision is unprecedented for a member of the European Union (EU).
Foreign Minister Simon Harris said he hoped Ireland's move to consider legislation to ban products from Israeli settlements would set an example and encourage other EU countries to take similar steps.
In May, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain and Norway recognised Palestine as an independent state, while French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France could do so as early as June.
EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas told a meeting of foreign ministers that a majority of the 27 member states supported the move in an effort to put pressure on Israel.
