China continues to maintain its position as Malaysia’s largest trading partner for the 16th consecutive year, with trade reaching RM161.98 billion for the period January to April 2025.
This performance was driven mainly by increased exports of electrical and electronic goods (E&E), which remain a major contributor to the bilateral trade relationship between the two countries.
The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said that Malaysia’s trade relations with China have gained new momentum following President Xi Jinping’s recent visit, which strengthened strategic alignment in green development, digital economy and regional infrastructure through initiatives such as the Belt and Road.
According to MATRADE, bilateral trade between Malaysia and China grew by 7.5% in 2024, contributing 16.8% of Malaysia’s total trade.
In this regard, MATRADE will once again lead Malaysia’s participation in the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (Caexpo) in Nanning, China, scheduled to take place from 17 to 21 September 2025, to explore new business opportunities in the regional market.
Since Malaysia’s maiden participation in the China-ASEAN Expo (Caexpo) in 2004, over 2,000 Malaysian companies have participated in the expo through MATRADE coordination, with a cumulative export value reaching RM6.69 billion.
This development underscores the importance of Caexpo as a strategic platform in expanding market access to China.
