Malaysia-Japan forge RM25 million agricultural industry cooperation

Malaysia and Japan will continue to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural industry through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with several companies from both countries at the Expo 2025 Osaka yesterday.


Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the signing of the MoU involves an investment worth $6 million (RM25.5 million) which can strengthen the resilience of the country's food system and generate the economy.


Furthermore, Mohamad Sabu said that agriculture is not just the work of villagers but is an important foundation for the country's future with cooperation from the government, private sector, farmers and the people.


Mohamad Sabu discussed that Malaysia is currently modernizing the agricultural sector through the National Agro-Food Policy 2.0 and Shared Prosperity Vision 2023 with the use of technology such as drones, the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart systems from farm to city.


He was also given the opportunity to launch the Sustainable Agriculture Week at the Pavilion, Malaysia in conjunction with the international expo.


Malaysia's participation in Expo 2025 Osaka is led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry with the support of 21 ministries and 70 government agencies.


The event also focuses on seven strategic sectors, namely industrial reform, sustainable agriculture, green manufacturing, halal industry, renewable energy (RE), smart living and environmental management.
