Microsoft is reportedly set to lay off thousands of its employees, particularly in sales and marketing, as part of a workforce restructuring and focus on investment in artificial intelligence (AI).

The layoff announcement is expected to be made as early as July, after the company's fiscal year ends in June.

According to internal sources, the layoffs will not only involve sales, but could also include other departments, depending on the latest assessment of the organizational structure.

This effort also follows a round of layoffs in May involving around 6,000 employees, mainly in engineering and product development.

Since April, the following companies have also started using third-party firms to manage sales to small and medium-sized customers.

Microsoft is currently reassessing its organizational structure to ensure that investments can be channeled towards long-term growth.
