Putrajaya is set to change its face with the launch of the Kota Madani mega project, a high-class smart city that will house 10,000 modern housing units for over 30,000 residents, developed on an area of 102 acres.

Announced by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, this project is not like an ordinary city. It is built vertically with high impact, complete with AI systems, smart digital infrastructure, and green mobility that is said to be low-carbon friendly.

However, this announcement immediately invited various reactions.

With so many houses and such sophisticated technology, the big question arises – who will actually live there?

Is it really for the Marhaen people, or will it be another ‘high-end’ project with the name Madani?

Kota Madani is part of the CHASE City initiative, which is Dr Zaliha’s vision to make the Federal Territories a clean, healthy, developed, safe and environmentally friendly city.

In a Facebook post, he described the project as a long-term investment to build Putrajaya as a pioneering city of Madani values.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 26, 2025.

Dr Zaliha also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his confidence and guidance in shaping the direction of this project.

AI houses, green cities, high technology, but the people should not only be able to watch from afar while praying for their names to be added to the list of “eligible recipients.”
