The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has successfully saved social security funds worth RM48.64 million in the long term by curbing the crime of benefit fraud.
The funds also include schemes such as Permanent Disability Benefit (FHUK), Temporary Disability Benefit (FHUS), Disability Scheme and Health Screening Programme (HSP).
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said that from 2020 to April 2025, Socso had investigated 679 cases of suspected benefit fraud with 383 cases (56.5%) suspended, thus ensuring fairness in the distribution of benefits to eligible contributors.
Sim said benefit fraud remained a major challenge after recording losses of RM2.1 million over the past year stemming from invalid claims.
He said this during the opening of the Seminar on Fraud, Evasion and Error in Social Security and Insurance Claims organised by Socso in collaboration with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME) yesterday.
The ceremony was also attended by Socso Board Chairman, Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal; ABIME President and Founder, Prof Dr Mohammed Ranavaya and Socso Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.
Furthermore, Socso also continuously reviews the Endurance Allowance (ELS) to ensure that the eligibility of recipients is always guaranteed and protected.
The ELS review successfully strengthened the integrity of the system by suspending 117 out of 509 cases, saving RM12.2 million from 2020 to April.
