Global energy company, Shell, has stated its commitment to invest more than RM9 billion in Malaysia over the next two to three years.
This was announced by Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, following his meeting with Shell CEO, Wael Sawan, during a courtesy call in Putrajaya on Tuesday.
According to Anwar, the decision reflects the strong confidence of world-class investors in the country’s sustainable economic policies, clarity of leadership and Malaysia’s future prospects.
In a post on the X platform, he also announced that the investment is expected to open up more highly skilled job opportunities for locals, especially in the energy sector.
Currently, Shell operates around 950 petrol stations nationwide. The company is also involved in the production of crude oil and natural gas in the waters of Sabah and Sarawak, in addition to being a partner in several liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects.
Anwar stressed that the government will continue to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a stable, resilient and sustainable investment destination internationally.
