US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for the third time for China's ByteDance to divest TikTok's US operations.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump is expected to sign another Executive Order this week to ensure that the TikTok app continues to operate as normal.
ByteDance is now approaching a June 19 deadline to complete the sale of its US TikTok operations, as set under national security law by the Supreme Court in January.
The law also stipulates that app store operators such as Apple and Google, as well as internet service providers, will face penalties if they continue to support TikTok's operations in the country without compliance.
In an interview with NBC News, Donald Trump said he was willing to extend the deadline for a third time if no deal is reached.
Several entities have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok's US operations, including Oracle, AppLovin, and Project Liberty, a consortium led by billionaire Frank McCourt.
However, it is not yet clear whether Beijing will approve any sales agreement involving the Chinese company's intellectual property and algorithms.
