According to an official report from Samsung's digital company and confirmed by Elon Musk on the X platform, Samsung Electronics has signed a contract worth $16.5 billion to supply semiconductor chips to Tesla.
However, Samsung did not specify the name of its business partner in the statement but said the contract begins on July 26, 2024 and ends on December 31, 2033.
Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla is the business partner in question, he also explained that Samsung's new factory in Texas will focus on producing Tesla's new generation AI6 chip.
Musk also stated that Samsung is currently building AI4 chips, while AI5 will be handled by TSMC, a Taiwanese company currently operating in Arizona.
Elon Musk in a post on X said that Tesla will help Samsung improve chip manufacturing efficiency, describing it as a high level of collaboration.
He also stressed that he will be personally involved to accelerate the progress of the project. Musk also hinted that the actual value of the agreement may exceed $16.5 billion as announced.
