The United States has filed a civil complaint to seize $2.4 million in Bitcoin seized by the Dallas FBI in connection with cybercrime activities.

According to a statement from the US Attorney's Office, the complaint was filed in the Northern District Court of Texas on Thursday to forfeit 20.2 million Bitcoins believed to belong to the Chaos hacking group, an organization linked to ransomware attacks.

The Dallas FBI seized the Bitcoins on April 15, which are believed to be the result of illegal activities related to cyberattacks.

If the $2.4 million Bitcoin claim is successful, the assets will add to the US government's Bitcoin reserves, as directed by President Donald Trump in an executive order dated March 6.

Meanwhile, some parties are questioning the actual amount of Bitcoin held by the US government.

According to estimates from platforms such as Nansen and Arkham, the US government is believed to be holding around 198,012 Bitcoins from previous seizures.
