Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the purchase of 30 Boeing aircraft by Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) as proof that the national economy is on a solid track and showing encouraging performance.

He said this was the first time in several years that MAB had not recorded a loss, as a result of management with integrity and being free from any irregularities.

The success, he said, was also driven by the country's political stability and strategic bilateral relations with foreign countries, including the United States (US), which is one of Malaysia's main trading partners.

According to Anwar, the purchase decision was made after considering the world's two major manufacturers, namely Boeing from the US and Airbus from France, before being finalized about four to five months ago to choose Boeing.

In the meantime, he also stressed that any negotiations regarding import tariffs with foreign countries must take into account the direct impact on local businesses and people.

He explained that many agreements that have been signed have had a positive impact on the country's economic growth, including in the aviation sector which is now showing a significant recovery.
