United States (US) President Donald Trump will offer a $50 million (RM235 million) reward for information leading to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a video on the X platform that Maduro uses foreign terrorist groups such as Tren de Aragua, Sinaloa and the Cartel of the Suns to smuggle drugs and bring violence to the US.

According to Bondi, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has seized 30 tons of cocaine linked to Maduro and his associates, including nearly 7 tons confirmed to be linked to Maduro.

Bondi also stressed that under Trump's leadership, Maduro will not escape justice and will be held accountable for his heinous crimes.

Maduro, 62, has been indicted in the Federal Court of the Southern District of New York since March 2020 on drug trafficking charges including narco-terrorist, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of heavy weapons and criminal planning of weapons.

Following the allegations, the first-term Trump administration announced a $15 million (RM70 million) reward for his capture.

The reward was increased to $25 million (RM117 million) by the State Department under President Joe Biden on January 10, and now the Trump administration has doubled it again.
