TikTok's top management was summoned to Bukit Aman on Thursday following the platform's delay in cooperating with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in tackling the spread of fake news.

The issue includes a viral video involving an individual claiming to be a pathology expert in the Zara Qairina Mahathir case.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said he had to contact TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew directly because the company was slow to act.

A meeting with the presence of Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Yusof Dusuki is expected to be held in Bukit Aman.

In addition, Fahmi also announced that Meta Platforms Inc will also be summoned to explain the spread of immoral content, including pedophilia-related content detected under the Op Pedo operation - for example, an online group known as "Geng Budak Sekolah".

In a dialogue session titled during the 2025 AI Grand Prix Ceremony, Fahmi also proposed measures to require identity verification for every purchase and sale transaction on social media.

This is aimed at curbing the abuse of fake accounts linked to fraud, online gambling advertisements and deepfake content.

Finally, he added that the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Safe and Responsible Use of Social Media for ASEAN will be launched during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.
