The government announced an increase in excise duty rates on cigarettes and liquor through the presentation of Budget 2026, as a measure to increase national revenue and control the use of substances that have a negative impact on public health.
The Ministry of Finance announced that the additional revenue from this increase will be used to fund public health prevention programs, including awareness campaigns on the dangers of smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. At the same time, the government will strengthen enforcement actions to combat smuggling activities and the sale of illegal products in the market.
