Tesla CEO Elon Musk has urged his 227 million followers on social media to cancel Netflix subscriptions after accusing the streaming platform of promoting transgender propaganda.
In a post on the X platform, Musk called on users to stop subscribing to Netflix, citing a post from Libs of TikTok.
The post also featured a screenshot of a Netflix report stating that it has increased the number of non-white directors and lead actors in its shows.
Musk joined the conservative Libs of TikTok trend, pointing to the animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park and Netflix's diversity initiatives as reasons to stop subscribing to the platform.
The series' creator, Hamish Steele, is accused of making statements on social media about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September, which sparked an online backlash.
However, Steele denied the accusations and called them slander from Musk.
He explained that the controversy arose because Musk has a personal connection to transgender issues, after his daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, legally changed her name and identity in 2022.
The controversy also affected the markets, with Netflix shares falling 2% on Wednesday and falling another 2% yesterday on Wall Street.
