Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said announced that the country's total petroleum revenue from 2018 to 2024 is RM775.2 billion.
Azalina explained that, based on data from Petroleum Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS), the amount includes RM284.8 billion for Peninsular Malaysia, RM205.0 billion for Sabah and RM285.4 billion for Sarawak.
She also stated that Malaysia's total petroleum investment for the same period reached RM256 billion, with RM86.5 billion from Peninsular Malaysia, RM56.3 billion from Sabah and RM113.2 billion from Sarawak.
The percentage of total investment compared to Malaysia's upstream revenue is 33%, namely Peninsular Malaysia (30%), Sabah (27%) and Sarawak (40%).
The statement was made when she was answering a question from Mordi Bimol (PH-Mas Gading) on PETRONAS' total annual exploration and production costs for oil and gas operations in each producing state from 2018 to 2024.
Azalina also said that the significant decline in the average global crude oil sales price was identified as the cause of PETRONAS's weak financial performance for the first half of 2025.
The average global crude oil sales price was at $71.87 per barrel, compared to $84.06 per barrel for the same period last year.
This situation caused PETRONAS to only record a net profit of RM26 billion as of June, lower than the RM32 billion recorded the previous year.
