The World Health Organization (WHO) will begin a massive vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip this Sunday, according to a report by the German news agency (dpa).
The campaign is targeting about 44,000 children who missed vaccinations during the two years of Israeli aggression.
Over a period of 10 days, they will receive injections for measles, mumps, rubella and polio, while the next dose will be given in January next year.
Previously, the WHO launched vaccination campaigns during the ceasefire period in the summer of 2024 and in February 2025, following the discovery of the polio virus in the Gaza Strip.
However, despite the presence of vaccination teams, there are still children who are unable to receive the vaccinations.
The WHO estimates that around 20% of children under the age of five have never been vaccinated or have only received insufficient vaccinations due to the prolonged conflict.
Vaccination coverage rates previously reached around 98%, but have now reportedly dropped to less than 70%.
Along with the implementation of the immunization campaign, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will also assess the level of malnutrition to ensure that aid can be channeled to children more quickly and effectively.
