United States (US) President Donald Trump has filed a $5 billion lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for defamation for editing his footage in a documentary about the Capitol riots in 2021.
Trump is suing the BBC for two counts of defamation and violating Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
The lawsuit comes after Trump accused the news company of publishing defamatory and malicious content against him in a documentary aired last year by the BBC ahead of the presidential election.
The filing of the lawsuit shows that he has succeeded in making good on his threat to take legal action against the broadcasting company.
The documentary has received criticism from Trump for allegedly showing content that seems to encourage his supporters to storm the Capitol building in 2021 to overturn his defeat to Joe Biden.
However, the BBC apologized to Trump for publishing the content, and promised not to air it again.
Besides the BBC, Trump has previously filed lawsuits against several other media companies, including CBS and ABC, over similar allegations.
