“Sorry Trump… We chose Denmark” – Greenland PM

Donald Trump’s plan to take control of Greenland was rejected when Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen insisted that his people chose to remain with Denmark over the United States.

In a press conference with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Nielsen described the ongoing geopolitical pressure as serious, but remained firm in his stance that Greenland is not for sale or seizure.

“We are facing a real geopolitical crisis. However, if given a choice between the United States and Denmark, we would choose Denmark with NATO and the European Union,” he said in a firm tone.

He also stressed that Greenland does not aspire to be under American control, but only wants to continue international relations based on dialogue and cooperation.

Trump previously claimed that Greenland is important for US security to contain Russia and China, and the White House has even proposed purchasing the island without ruling out military options.

However, Nielsen’s latest statement marks the clearest and loudest rejection of that desire.

In response, Trump implicitly warned that Greenland’s stance could have dire consequences for the region.

“That’s their decision… but it could be a big problem for them,” he said when asked about Nielsen’s statement.

These tensions now raise big questions about the future of US-Greenland relations and their implications for Arctic politics and global security.
