 The number of early unemployment benefit claims last week recorded a higher than expected economists. The labor market is still recovering from the Covid-19 outbreak even at a slower pace.


The Department of Labor reported on Thursday that the initial unemployment claim for the week ending September 19 was at a reading of 870,000. Based on a questionnaire conducted by Dow Jones expects that the unemployment claim is expected to record 850,000 total claims, down slightly from the previous week's reading of 860,000.


The number of ongoing unemployment claims is reported to have increased to 12.580 million. Last week's figure was revalued to 12.747 million.


The US dollar index, which measures the greenback dollar against six major currencies, traded strongly at 94,558, up 0.13% as of 08.55 p.m.
