Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine use report has been reviewed by U.S. regulators because there have been rare cases of warning of the risk of bleeding disorders.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in a letter to the company on Tuesday reported that the risk of immune thrombocytopenia within 42 days after vaccination included symptoms of unusual bruising or excessive bleeding.
Such usage changes include recommendations to vaccine providers about giving J&J injections to people with pre -existing medical conditions including those with low platelet levels.
Until now, J&J has not given any further statement.
Meanwhile, the J&J vaccine has previously been linked to a rare but serious blood clot called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome or TTS.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that women aged 30 to 49 are at the highest risk.
To date approximately 17 million Americans have been vaccinated or received 1 dose of injection and last month the CDC recommended an RNA vaccine made by Moderna Inc. and Pfizer Inc for use in adults versus J&J.
