The United States has asked OPEC leader Saudi Arabia to delay its oil output decision for a month.
However, the request was rejected by Saudi Arabia, which said the action could have a negative impact on the economy.
It also dismissed American criticism that its decision to cut production recently was not based on facts.
He said, all decisions made by OPEC are based on forecasts and economic needs.
Earlier, OPEC and its allies including Russia, otherwise known as OEPC+, have agreed to cut production by 2 million barrels starting in November, which is the largest cut ever implemented by the group since Covid-19 hit.
Responding to Saudi Arabia's statement, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby accused the government of helping Russia to raise revenue by blocking the effects of Western sanctions over its war in Ukraine.
At the time of writing, Brent crude oil futures were trading little changed at $84 a barrel while US WTI was trading around $89 a barrel.
